Tower Colliery, Hirwaun, Rhondda Cynon Taff

Worked continuously for coal from 1805 to January 2008, Tower was the last of Wales' deep collieries to close, after final depletion of its viable reserves. Tower Colliery operated as a worker-owned business, funded by miners made redundant by the NCB, from January 1995 until its closure.
